Annual Renewal

Annual registration renewal begins on November 1 each year. To make sure you are ready to work on January 1, submit your renewal application and fees before November 30. All applications not completed and paid for by this time could experience delays in processing. Online services for renewal will remain open until December 31 at 4:30 p.m.

It takes about 15 minutes to complete your application and submit the required fees. The renewal requirements and assessment process are described in more detail below. 

Step 1: Complete the online renewal form

  1. Click on the “Registration” button, then the “Renew” button and follow the instructions.
  2. Complete the online application form by:
    • Verifying your personal contact information
    • Providing your employment information and LPN hours
    • Consenting to a criminal record check (if applicable)
    • Providing details about any other registration(s) you hold in Canada or internationally
    • Acknowledging that you have read and understand all of the consent and declaration requirements 

Step 2: Submit your payment

After completing your application form, you will pay your fees using one of the secure online payment options. If you don’t want to pay online, choose the “pay later” option, and mail a money order to us. Make sure we get your payment before December 31. For more about fees and payment options click here.

If you enrolled in CLPNBC’s Pre-Authorized Payments (PAP), you will see the credits to your account on your invoice. If there are outstanding fees, such as the criminal record check fee, you will need to pay them before you can submit your application. 

Step 3: CLPNBC assesses your application

When CLPNBC assesses your renewal application, we consider the following:

If this was your Jurisprudence exam year, you must complete this requirement before the renewal period opens. You will not be able to access an online application for renewal until you have met this requirement. 

LPN Practice Hours

To demonstrate currency in practice as an LPN, you must have done one of the following in the past five years to be eligible to renew your practising registration:

Each year you renew, you must self-report the LPN hours you worked between January 1 and December 31 of the same calendar year. Sign in to your CLPNBC account and go to the Quality Assurance tab to see the hours you have previously reported during renewal. 

We understand that by renewing before December 31, you must provide a best guess of the hours you expect to work in the remaining days of the renewal year. If there are changes to the hours you submitted with your renewal application, you must have your employer provide CLPNBC with confirmation of these practice hours.

Step 4: Confirm your registration status on the Public Register

Before you go to work in the New Year, check your status on the Public Register. If you miss the deadline or don't renew, you cannot practise or volunteer as an LPN in BC. Remember that working as an LPN without CLPNBC registration is an offence under the Health Professions Act and is considered professional misconduct. If you work without current practising registration, you will be required to pay an additional fee of $200

  • The email on record with CLPNBC and your password
  • Your 2017 practice hours (January 1 – December 31, 2017)
  • Contact information for your current employer(s)
  • Your payment method

Tips for self-employed LPNs:

  • If the majority of your LPN work is self-employed practice, you must state on your renewal application that you are the primary employer
  • NEVER include a client name or address when reporting primary employment. CLPNBC's Public Register displays primary employer information.
