Criminal Record Check

The Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) requires that individuals working with children or vulnerable adults, and individuals who have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults, must consent to a Criminal Record Check for their professional regulatory body.

CLPNBC is required to ensure that every applicant authorizes a criminal record check upon application for registration and at least every five years after that. This includes your authorization for fingerprint analysis if required by the Criminal Records Review Progam (CRRP). We are not permitted under this legislation to grant registration to anyone who has not complied with this requirement.

For current registrants:

Remember that you are required to report any criminal charges, convictions, or alternative resolution following a charge to CLPNBC as soon as possible. If you are unsure, it’s best to contact the registration team to discuss your circumstances.

If your last criminal record check for CLPNBC is more than five years old, your online renewal application will include a section where you must provide consent for a new criminal record check. The $28 fee required by the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) will be included in your total amount to pay for annual renewal. We will submit this payment to the Criminal Records Review Program on your behalf.

For new applicants or reinstating registrants:

Remember that you are required to report any criminal charges, convictions, or alternative resolution following a charge to CLPNBC upon application and any time after you are granted registration.

The online application form includes the required Criminal Record Check consent (CRC). The $28 fee required by the Criminal Records Review Program will be included in your total amount to pay for annual renewal. We will submit this payment to the Criminal Records Review Program on your behalf.

CLPNBC does not accept:

  • Criminal Record Checks you completed through the RCMP because these checks do not look at the same records as the Criminal Records Review Program related to the safety-sensitive position of nursing.
  • Criminal Record Checks you completed more than six months ago
