Substance use disorders – can you recognize the signs?

It is estimated that nurses misuse drugs and alcohol at almost the same rate (10% – 15%) as the general population. That means that if you work with 10 nurses, one of them is likely struggling with a substance use disorder.

QUIZ: Which of the following signs might indicate a co-worker is struggling with a substance use disorder?

  1. Increasing isolation from colleagues
  2. Frequent unexplained disappearances from the unit

Discipline Commitee Order

CLPNBC’s Discipline Committee hears and considers cases sent by citation from the Inquiry Committee to a discipline hearing, and makes a determination based on the facts of the case.

From October 31 to November 10, 2016, a panel of the Discipline Committee conducted a hearing into the conduct of Brigitta Pelcz, Registration #44857.

The resulting Order of the Discipline Committee has been published on our website in accordance with CLPNBC's Bylaws and section 39.3(1) of the Health Professions Act.

Call for resolutions — Annual General Meeting

The April 17, 2017 deadline for resolution submissions is almost here. LPNs who wish to present a resolution at this year’s AGM must submit their completed form to CLPNBC by the deadline.

Intravenous therapy - Did You Know

Joe is an LPN caring for Mr. Fenwick who is four days post-operative and is vomiting and dehydrated. Mr. Fenwick has KCL infusing through a peripheral intravenous (IV) line. Joe has successfully completed additional education through his employer to change IV bags containing KCL that have been premixed commercially or by a pharmacy.
