Jurisprudence update

As part of CLPNBC's Quality Assurance Program to promote high practice standards among registrants, all practising and non-practising LPNs will complete the Jurisprudence exam every three years. All LPNs who are renewing registration for the first time or former registrants who have reinstated are required to write the exam the following year.

Starting in 2016, CLPNBC will assign all practising and non-practising LPNs to write the Jurisprudence exam in either 2016, 2017 or 2018. In March 2016, we will email you to notify you of your Jurisprudence exam year.

CPNRE® gets an upgrade! Scope of Practice: Standards, Limits & Conditions

Starting in May, the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE®) will be a computer-based test. Read more about the exam and changes to the registration application process.

CLPNBC is consulting LPNs, employers and other stakeholders to develop standards, limits and conditions to complement the new Nurses (Licensed Practical) Regulation. The current Scope of Practice remains in place until the CLPNBC Board approves a new document. Practice will not change until employers have appropriate policies in place. The implementation of new standards, limits and conditions will be gradual and we will continue to keep you informed.

Select an option:

  1. Speak to other nurses about their problems with the new documentation system.
  2. Participate in employer provided education about electronic documentation.
  3. Google articles on electronic documentation systems.
  4. Refer to a facility policy manual when a procedure is unclear.
