6 things you need to know about Jurisprudence
  1. 2016 is the “Jurisprudence year” for 3,500 randomly chosen LPNs
  2. These LPNs need to complete the exam by October 31 to be eligible to renew their registration for 2017
  3. View your Jurisprudence year by logging in to your CLPNBC account
  4. Jurisprudence is a quality assurance requirement designed to enhance practice
  5. There are two parts – an education module and an exam
  6. Together, they will help you understand and apply the Standards of Practice

how will the new regulation affect your practice?

LPN practice will not change overnight.

CLPNBC will implement the new regulation and the related standards, limits, and conditions gradually.

Employers will take time to determine what changes will take place in their organizations.

Continue practising within CLPNBC’s Standards, Limits & Conditions and your employer’s policies.

Remember that there are four controls on LPN practice:

  1. the regulation
  2. standards, limits & conditions
  3. employer policy
  4. your competence

Beginning with the regulation, each control narrows practice. Ultimately, it’s up to you to determine if you can carry out an activity.

CLPNBC has just notified you that you have been assigned to write the Jurisprudence exam this year. What should you do?

Select an option:

  1. Only complete the Jurisprudence exam if you hold practising registration and work in a clinical area of practice.
  2. Decide to wait until next year to write the Jurisprudence exam so you have more time to prepare.
  3. Complete the Jurisprudence exam on your own before October 31 so you are eligible to renew your LPN registration for next year.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues to write the Jurisprudence exam before October 31 so you are eligible to renew your LPN registration for next year.
