Nurses (Licensed Practical) Regulation

In December 2015, BC’s Minister of Health signed a revised Nurses (Licensed Practical) Regulation into force. It is a regulation under the Health Professions Act (HPA).

The regulation provides the foundation for LPN scope of practice, including restricted nursing activities that LPNs can perform with and without an order. “Scope of practice” refers to the nursing activities that licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are educated and authorized to perform. The regulation is not intended to prescribe every aspect of LPN practice. For that reason, the HPA authorizes CLPNBC to develop standards, limits and conditions to complement the regulation and further define LPN practice.
